CEROC ETIQUETTE
This page is dedicated to all things polite and proper. It is intended to give an idea of accepted conduct when attending a Ceroc Kent night.
Requesting a Dance:
Anybody can ask anybody else to dance. Ladies should not be afraid to ask the men.
When asking somebody for a dance, please be polite and make sure that you introduce yourself.
Where possible, please try to avoid refusing a dance. If you have a genuine reason for refusing (injury, tiredness or just off to the bar), please endeavour to explain your reasons and make sure the requester isn't left with the impression that it's personal.
In The Line-up:
When joining the class, please try to take a spare lady/ man from the line-up, rather than standing in a row and putting your hand up.
If during the class you are left partnerless, then please do raise your hand and the teacher will request a partner join up. Please avoid finger clicking, whistling and phrases like 'Oi' to attract attention.
Introduce yourself to everyone you dance with during the class and be sure to thank them before they move on.
Ladies, remeber that the guys are meant to be leading. Make sure that you avoid trying to lead them yourself, even if you know that they are doing wrong.
Guys, try to avoid lambasting the ladies for mistakes during the class. Remember that you're leading and the ladies rely on you for polite guidance.
Dancing With Strangers:
When dancing with somebody for the first time it is important to remember the following;-
Introduce yourself.
Try to dance moves that your partner is capable of.
Thank them for the dance.
Do not do any lifts, drops or seducers with people you are not familiar with.
Don't attempt to coach people you don't know.
In Freestyle:
Be aware of your surroundings. If you are in a crowded venue, please keep your freestlye small and avoid big expansive moves.
Do not attempt any lifts or drops at crowded venues.
If you do bump into somebody, apologise as soon as possible.
Remember the main principal of dancing is to make your partner look good.
Any lady would much rather dance with a man who dances half a dozen simple moves well, than a man who dances a hunderd complex moves badly.
Hygiene:
When you are dancing please make sure you drink plenty of water, especially in this hot weather.
A towel is a vital piece of your dance equipment, a spare top and deodorant is a must.
Also please make sure your hands are cleaned regularly so as not to pass on any germs.
We have also been asked to mention that any sharp jewellery should be removed or covered with a plaster.
Thank you for your understanding and remember to keep enjoying it.
Kind regards,
The Ceroc Kent Team
